SHEET MUSIC MICHIGAN
Teen Church Choir Music?

I am part of an Evangelical Presbyterian church in Michigan. I am trying to help my teen choir director find some music. We are a group of about 60, with Sopranos 1 and 2, Altos, Tenors and Basses. I am looking for a song that we could sing maybe at a Christmas concert, but it does not have to be Christmas. We would like it to be more contemporary (examples Nichole Nordman, MercyMe, Chris Tomlin). It does not have to be sung by a choir, and we do not need a link to sheet music. We would just like an inspirational song that teens aged 13-18 can sing.

Check out this source:

www.jwpepper.com (you can listen to the songs here, too)

From this company I recommend:

My Heart Your Bethlehem (Schram and Gaines)
Bethlehem Wind (Martin)

My Heart Your Bethlehem has beautiful string parts if you have any string players.

We used Bethlehem Wind as a candlelight processional, and we had a wind sound during the introduction.

Then, there is also “When You Believe” from the Prince of Egypt, which is a good arrangement for teens, as well.

If you want a contemporary one, it is harder to find Christmas music, but one I have been hearing on the radio is by a group called “Down Here” and the song is called “How Many Kings.” That would be one that’s not too hard to put together.

From www.ocp.org, one that my youth choirs enjoyed is “Make Straight the Way,” by Tom Conry. You can add guitar and instruments to it. We used it as a processional.

Illinois sounds like The Sea and Cake collaborating with the high-school band from a Wes Anderson film on banjo-driven, pulsing meditations on Vince Guaraldi’s music for Peanuts. Sufjan Stevens, the singer-songwriter behind the endeavor, is an earnest and whimsical young man who aims to record an album based on every state in the union, though this is just his second attempt since 2003’s Michigan….

TMBG has always been a great reason for math and computer science majors to add a real rock album to their collection of John Williams and Weird Al records–and Flood is a bacchanalian celebration of dorkiness. Lifting off from their previous album, Lincoln, which was a sort of transitional hit-or-miss, Flood is a soaring, catchy sing-along album destined for people who love quoting Monty Python s…

With its idyllic New England locales and multiple themes, director Lasse Hallstrom’s version of John Irving’s book presented composer Rachel Portman with some challenging, if deceptively simple, choices. Portman’s main theme (imagine a pastoral Copland waltz), stated by solo piano and then orchestra, sets us firmly in the tranquil Maine countryside, while permutations of it continually shade the f…
