Replacing sheet music for Baritone horn?
I’m a student arranging music for our band. I cannot find half of the baritone horn parts I need, and I was wondering if there was another instrument that I could pull the sheet music from and say “here. play this part instead.” Obviously it has to be in the same key. (I don’t know how well the player can transpose – I know it’s a pain for me, so I’d like to keep it in the same key.) Any suggestions?
Also, what the heck do the abbreviations Baritone B.C. and Baritone T.C. mean, and what are the differences between them? (I think I’m looking for T.C.)
I’m a flutist/tenor sax player, so brass is kind of out of my realm of expertise. *_* Thanks in advance!
Edit: Just kidding – I’m looking for Baritone B.C.
Look at the Score. It has EVERY part (unless it’s a condensed score or combines similar parts like trombone, baritone, tenor sax, and sometimes bari sax).
For marching band, the baritones play almost the same notes as the tenor sax (if not exactly the same). If the Tenor Sax is playing exactly what the Baritone is playing, THAT would be the Baritone TC part.
If you have a music writing program for your computer (Sibelius, Finale, etc.), you could write out the tenor sax part and copy/paste it to a Baritone BC staff and transpose it (you might have to move the octave placement depending on the program and move a few notes that are out of playable range). If there is only a “low voices” part or “low brass” part in the score, that would be the Baritone BC part.
Good Luck!
