Musical Instruments for beginners?
What instrument (besides the recorder) would you recommend for people who are just starting out in music? They don’t know how to read music sheets (other than FACE) or much about anything in the music world but they are very determined to play some sort of instrument.
My friend is thinking about playing these instruments;
Clarinet, Base, Violin, Drums, Flute, Piano, Piccolo; These are her top choices
I don’t know if this matters but she keeps saying because she has long fingers (which she does) and good cardiovascular system she would have an easier time playing one of those wind instruments above.???
If she were to play one of those instruments above what would she have to do besides learn the music notes? And which do you think is better suited for her?
She would be using a school’s instrument, I don’t know if that matters or not.
Thanks guys.
by base, do you mean string base or base guitar? idk about base guitar but string base is REALLY hard. and kind of boring, if you play in a concert band/orchestra. but the good thing is that no one really pays attention to you so you can suck as much as you want lol
clarinet and flute are both easy(ish) to learn, but hard to play with good sound quality
violin is hard to learn, but once you get it, you get it. expression and sound quality are important
piano is easier than violin, but you need to have good coordination. i know great violinists who can’t play the piano because it’s impossible for them to move their hands/fingers independently all at the same time. and while it’s easy to get dynamic expression (that’s why it’s called the pianoforte), it’s hard to get a sound quality that’s different from what it always is… but she/he/they wont have to worry about that until they get good at it. as you can probably tell im a piano person.
piccolo… i have no clue. maybe the same as clarinet and flute?
drums, in my opinion, are very cool. but you have to have very VERY good rhythm… but you probably knew that already lol
for all of them, you need to have patience. beginning a musical instrument is one of the most frustrating things you can do, but after the first couple of years it’ll be just awesome. the second instrument is easier than the first. the third is even easier… it’s like a vicious cycle lol
and (CLICHE ALERT) you need to practice.
