What could a baritone replace?
My friends and I are organizing a small, 5-7 man ensemble to play a jazz song. One of my friends plays the baritone and I don’t have the sheet music for him. I want to know what a baritone can replace, what instrument plays in the same key so I don’t have to transpose anything? Thanks!
If you are talking about a Jazz combo, a Baritone horn reads in the same range as the Trombone . If your friend reads in Treble clef however, it means that he reads in the same clef as a Trumpet. Depending on the range of the piece, he may need a part from the trumpet or Tenor Sax. They both read one full step above concert pitch. (If they play a C, it comes out of the horn as a B flat)
If your friend plays Bass Clef (F clef) then it is the same range as the trombone. Hope this helps.
